Robert Kaufman

Robert Kauffman graduated from Shippensburg University with a B.S in Physics, a master’s degree in Physics and a master’s degree in Educational Administration.  He received his science supervisory certification and K-12 principal certification while attending Shippensburg University.  Mr. Kauffman’s worked for Mechanicsburg Area School District for thirty-five years.  He taught physics for 14 years and was the science department supervisor prior to becoming an assistant principal and athletic director at the high school.  He served six years in the capacity of Supervisor of Administrative Services for the Mechanicsburg Area School District until his retirement in 2014.  In this position Mr. Kauffman was responsible for the administration and supervision of all aspects of safety and security, district transportation, health services, student registration, school policy development, online learning, special projects and served as School Board Secretary.

 

​Mr. Kauffman has served as a volunteer in emergency services since 1974 when he became a volunteer with the Vigilant Hose Company No. 1 of Shippensburg.  In 1979 he became a member of Friendship Fire Company No. 5 of Carlisle (now Carlisle Fire Rescue Services), and in 1999 joined Northern York County Fire Rescue Services.  He has served as captain, assistant fire chief and deputy fire chief throughout his active tenure as a firefighter.  In 1983 Mr. Kauffman became a PA State Fire, Rescue and Hazardous Materials Instructor for the PA State Fire Academy and Harrisburg Area Community College. 

 

​Mr. Kauffman was instrumental in the creation of the Cumberland County Special Hazards Operations Team.  Since its formation in 1982, Mr. Kauffman has served as Chief of the Team and as a certified hazardous material technician.  He is a volunteer on the Cumberland County Emergency Operations Center staff and serves as Radiological Officer for the County.  He is active as a firefighter and fire service instructor and attends numerous professional conferences, training courses and online learning opportunities to stay current with best practices and technology advancements in emergency services. 

 

Mr. Kauffman is an active member of the Cumberland County Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC), the Cumberland County Safe Schools Association, the South Central Task Force, and a member of Pennsylvania Association of Hazardous Materials Technicians, the National Fire Protection Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs.

Mike Taylor

Mike has been serving the community since 1993 as a firefighter with Hampden Township Volunteer Fire Company.  At the Fire Company he has held several leadership positions from Lieutenant to Assistant Fire Chief and is currently the Fire Company President and a Safety Officer.  He has been a member of the HazMat team since 1998 and a chief with the Team since 2008 and is currently the Deputy Chief for the team.  Mike is employed by the Cumberland County Department of Public Safety as the Logistic Coordinator. 

Mike holds several fire service and hazardous materials certification as well as being a PEMA Professional Emergency Management Coordinator and the FEMA Advance Professional Development Series.

Taylor Griffiths

Taylor is a community-focused and public servant leader. Graduate from Shippensburg University with a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Public Administration. Master’s Degree in Emergency Management and Disaster Preparedness from Millersville University.

Taylor holds numerous professional certifications with the National Board on Fire Service Professional Qualifications. Taylor is also nationally certified Hazardous Materials and WMD Technician He has been an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) since 1999. He has also completed his PEMA Basic Local Level Emergency Management requirements and the FEMA Professional Development series. 

Taylor has served as the Vice-Chairman of our LEPC for the past three years. He has been an active appointed member of the committee since 2015.

Matthew Kendall

Matt has been serving the community since 2006 as a firefighter with Pleasant Hall Volunteer Fire Company.  At the Fire Company he has held several leadership positions from Sergeant to Fire Chief.

A member of the HazMat team since 2016, Matt is employed by Franklin County Department of Emergency Services as the county Hazmat Coordinator. Matt holds several fire service and hazardous materials certification as well as being a PEMA Professional Emergency Management Coordinator.

The Team is staffed by a number of volunteers from within the county that serve in various roles during an emergency response such as conducting work within the "hot zone", decontamination, research, and other specialized tasks. Numerous members also are certified in HazMat Operations and/or to the Technician Level meeting National Professional Qualification System standards (i.e., Pro Board Certification)
